The Centenary Company
After years of performing their productions of Gilbert & Sullivan favourites in minor venues, the Centenary Company, based in Blackheath, South East London, had grown in popularity and finally persuaded the prestigious Greenwich Theatre to stage their production of The Mikado over several nights. It was such a success they were invited back the following year to stage a production of The Gondoliers. This was a free commission. The 'silhouette' was selected as the final design for The Mikado and 'two hats' for the The Gondoliers.
